Book Review: The Winter Crown

Eleanor of Aquitaine was married to Henry II. This was a very rocky pairing. Elizabeth Chadwick has a way of bringing out the personalities of these characters in history. She also is able to set the stage for this to take place, as the world is a very different place than where we live today.

From the first, Eleanor is aware of Henry's treatment and is afraid that he will see her as insignificant as a queen. This is indeed what happens, and is increasing obvious the longer they reign.

The events that take place during this time are seen through the eyes of Eleanor, which makes sense since this is her story.

I have a love of this time period in English history and I find this story to be true to the facts, as I know them. I feel like Chadwick was able to open this time period to others as she shows a perspective not seen from historians. Well done!

I was given this book by NetGalley and SOURCEBOOKS in exchange for my honest review. Thank you so much.
