Book Review: We Never Asked for Wings

Letty Espinosa's mother has raised her two children while Letty worked three jobs to make ends meet. This changes when her parents return to Mexico. Now Letty has to find a way to take care of her own children, for the first time.

We Never Asked for Wings tells the story of how Letty takes control of this new situation. Her children, Alex and Luna, also have to face the changes in their lives. Luna is homesick for her grandparents and Alex is in love for the first time. The neighbor hood they live in is a dangerous one, so Letty is trying to find a way to leave what has been their home since the children were born.

This story is filled with love, family, motherhood and undocumented immigration. Vanessa Diffenbaugh was able to cover all of these topics with a beautiful story that was a powerful read.

I was given this book by NetGalley and Ballantine books in exchange for my honest review.
