Paula McLain has written a beautiful book about a real-life heroine in
Circling the Sun. However, in her own relationships I would not call her a heroine. These relationships are the emphasis of this book. She does talk about some of Beryl Markham's accomplishments such as being a British ex-pat, a horse trainer and aviator. Plus she had a relationship with Denys Finch Hatton and was did not get along with Karen Blixen of
Out of Africa.
I would give this book four-stars because of the main character's story line, however, I believe that a little more work need to go into the other characters to help develop them. Still, I would recommend this book to those that enjoy books such as
Out of Africa.
I was given this book by NetGalley and Ballantine Books in exchange for my honest review.
