The Blue Zones American Kitchen

I received a sample of this book to review. From what I saw, it looked like I had some of the recipes from the first section,   "Indigenous, Native and Early American." The recipes and the pictures were wonder and the steps for the unusual foods were easy to follow. I look forward to the official release so that I may purchase this book and try some of the other recipes from this book.

I recommend this book with anyone with a curiosity for new, to you, recipes.

I received this sampler from NetGalley and National Geographic in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

The DIRTY, LAZY, KETO No Time to Cook Cookbook by Stephanie Laska; William Laska

I have started Keto cooking over a year ago but this is the first cookbook by Stephanie Laska that I have looked at.

She seems to be knowledgeable about Keto cooking which encouraged me to continue looking at the recipes in this book.

This book includes 100 recipes that are easy to prepare and quick to the table.

I recommend this book.

The Healing Powers of Herbs and Spices by Cal Orey

This is a topic that is near and dear to my heart. I would much prefer to heal my body with herbs and spices than other medicines. This book is very informative and the photographs are beautiful.

I recommend it.

The Unofficial Disney Parks Cookbook by Ashley Craft

I loved reading this book. YES, I said reading. This is more than a cookbook. I has recipes but it also has maps of the parks with the locations of the different food items marked.

Each of the recipes are easy to follow and some of them do use ingredients like cake mix but none of them are difficult. But what I loved was the history of the parks and the background information on each of the recipes.

If you have someone that enjoys Disney Parks, or enjoys cooking with few ingredients this would make a great gift.

Cookbook Review: The Deliciously Keto Cookbook by Molly Pearl; Kelly Roehl

I began to look into this way of life a few months ago. When I came across this book, I thought I would look at it and see if I truly can make this my lifestyle. Ketogenic is a high-fat, moderate-protein, low-carb diet. It can address many medical issues, while it helps a person lose or maintain a healthy weight. This type of diet helps the body focus on dietary fat, and ketones as the source of energy. It is more efficient for the body to burn fat this way.

In this book I found many recipes for each part of the day: breakfast, appetizers, snacks, main meal, desserts and sides. There are also included tips for cooking, and eating out.

As thrilled as I was with this book, I did find some of the recipes to contain more carbs than I prefer. But all together I did find many recipes that I feel will become a part of my regular routine.

Book Review: The Science of Cooking by Dr. Stuart Farrimond

Dr. Farrimond is a specialist in the area of food science. He also is known for television, radio and public appearances. In this book Dr. Farrimond presents a book on the science of food that is easy to understand. There are more than 150 questions on the subject which he addresses along with tips and diagrams. Included are a vast area of food, taste, essentials and so much more. The book is interesting and the photography is amazing.

I love most aspects of science, but in the last few years I have found the science of food fascinating. Dr. Farrimond was able to expand my education in a way that I was able to comprehend easily. I see this book will become a part of my resource shelf to pull out to look at again and again.

Cook Book Review: More-with-Less (40th Anniversary Edition)

I purchased an edition of this book 30 years ago and I loved it. When this edition came out, I was convinced that I would feel the same about it. I do.

This book has been filled with recipes used by the Mennonite people. It helps the consumer look at the food that we consume, like whole grains, fruits, vegetables, legumes etc. Preferably, these should come from local sources. To show some of the missions that the Mennonite people serve they include pictures from around the world using local resources.

I found the recipes were easy to follow and, unlike so many other cookbooks, do not take forever to create. I enjoyed this version as often as I did the first one I owned.

Book Review: Harvest

Harvest: Unexpected Projects Using 47 Extraordinary Garden Plants by [Bittner, Stefani, Harampolis, Alethea]This book, Harvest, is a beautiful book to look at and a wonderful resource book for uses of garden plants. Most of the ideas, plans and recipes given in this book were new to me. I had never thought about pickling rhubarb, or using blueberries for dyeing. These are in here plus lemongrass salt scrub, pineapple guava simple syrup and many, many more. Each entry has large colorful pictures along with an introduction about the plant, where and if you can grow it in your garden, when to harvest, a recipe, or directions and then a picture of the finished item.

I loved this hardback books with print which is easy to red and instructions that are plain and easy to follow. I found this book beautiful and full of useful information.

Book Review: The London Cookbook

The London Cookbook: Recipes from the Restaurants, Cafes, and Hole-in-the-Wall Gems of a Modern City by [Crapanzano, Aleksandra]When people have referred to the food in the UK, at least to my ears, all I remember is how bad it is. However, when I traveled over there, I found their food enjoyable. Now, with this cookbook, I can make some of my favorite recipes, from my travels, in my own kitchen.

Aleksandra Crapanzano has brought some of the culinary delights into one book. She talks about her time in the different restaurants and then she breaks the recipes into an easy-to-follow, easy-to-make format.

The book is broken ito Light Fare; Soups; Pasta, Rica and Grains; Vegetarian; Seafood; Fowl; Meat; Desserts; Chilled Desserts and Cocktails.

The recipes which I tried have been delicious and easy to make.

Anyone who enjoys cooking would enjoy this book. I was given this book by Blogging for Books in exchange for an honest review.

Book Review: Home Cooking

This is so much more than a cookbook. Home Cooking does include recipes and very good instructions, but there are entries along the way. I love the style with which Laurie Colwin wrote. It is so inviting and welcomes the reader to realize that cooking does not need to be scary nor does it require complicated, expensive equipment. I feel this book is so refreshing and funny.

I feel that this book is a wonderful book for all readers, whether a novice cook or an experienced chef.

Cookbook Review: The Naked Cookbook

The Naked Cookbook by [Ward, Tess]The Naked Cookbook, by Tess Ward, is exactly as its title suggest. It is a very basic cookbook. When I requested it, I don't think I was thinking about the cover of the book. It is made from a heavy cardboard with a simple spine. Once inside though there are so many recipes which can be used when looking for going to a simple cooking, and eating, lifestyle. There are so many recipes inside that cover a variety of foods. It begins with infused oils, sauces, broths and stocks and then comes soups, one-dish meals, instructions on how to make sauerkraut and kimchi, pickles and so much more. The recipes are broken down into pure, raw, stripped, bare, nude, clean and detox. I am so glad that I had the chance to review this book and I can see how I can use it to enrich my lifestyle.

My one concern with this book is I am not sure how well the spine will hold up if it were to be used as a go-to cookbook regularly. If this weren't an issue with me I would definitely give it five-stars. Overall, though, I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for practical recipes for a healthy lifestyle.

Book Review: Bella's Christmas Bake Off

I love Christmas fiction and this one is as funny as the title states. It also is dangerous to read while reading on an electronic reader as drooling may cause a short, just kidding.

The main character, Amy is a mother of grown children. And as her husband leaves she is on her own at Christmas. She feels a homeless shelter calling her for help. She also discovers her mother's old recipes being used by an old friend Bella, on her own cooking show. Bella is also claiming them as her own.

The characters were so well-written and full of joy. This is a book that is easy to enjoy and will leave the reader laughing out loud.

Book Review: Stir

Stir is the author's own story. At 28, Jessica had an aneurysm burst while she was out for a run. This event caused her to lose her sense of smell, and sight in her left eye. As she was recovering she decided to begin in the kitchen as soon as she could stir.

Cooking became her therapy. This book shows how food is connected to each of us and how it can have restorative powers not expected.

This book could have been depressing, but instead Jessica was able to find the humor in the events. Included in this book are 27 recipes that she turned to because of her enjoyment of them and as a comfort food.  I loved this book and would recommend it to all I know.

I was given this book by NetGalley and Penguin Group Avery in exchange for my honest review. Thank you to both of them.

Book Review: Best Food Writing 2015

I had a hard time connecting to the writings in this book. I realize that the writers are some of the top voices in the food industry, but I felt like the writing was so specialized that I was seeing the words but not caring about what they were saying.
Unfortunately, this made it very difficult for me to go from one writing to another.

Cookbook Review: Milk Bar Life: Recipes and Stories

I love this book. Milk Bar Life is filled with easy-to-make recipes and each recipe comes with a story of why Christina Tosi included it in the book.

Instead of using the standard heading of Breakfast, Breads and so on, Tosi heads her section Hand-Me-Downs, Supermarket, Weak Nights and so on. It is so much fun to read and feel the comfort of the foods included.

Christine Tosi is the owner of Momofuku Milk Bar and has written previous cook books.

I would gladly purchase this book for any of my friends and family. I was given this book by Blogging for Books in exchange for my honest review.
