Book Review: With Love, Wherever you Are

With Love, Wherever You Are, written by Dandi Daley Mackall, is a historical romance set in WWII. The story is based off love letters written by her parents.

 Helen Eberhart joined the Army as a nurse after Pearl Harbor. She is given the assignment of caring for severly wounded soldiers.

Frank Daley joined so he could finish medical school. He was hoping that he would not have to face battle. However, he ends up going to bootcamp and then to Europe to serve in a battlefield hospital. While serving the two met. The couple encountered love, faith and sacrifices as they had a whirlwind courtship and wedding. Then while serving the two had to cling to the thread of their love as they faced the dangers and struggle of taking care of their patients.

The author was able to make this couple come alive as she took the letters and was able to show the love this couple had as they faced uncertainty from the beginning. You can tell the love Dandi has for these two as she creates strong, yet loving characterizations of Frank and Helen. This is a well-written romance that touches the heart of the reader.

Book Review: Waking Up Slowly

What wonderful places to turn to for Spiritual lessons....dogs, children, critters and the unexpected. I love when this happens and so does Dave Burchett.

In Waking Up Slowly the author shows us how much more we can connect to God by turning away from our technology, which we seemed always hooked up to, and look around for these moments from God.

His down-to-earth writing style helped this connect with me from page one. It is filled with stories that move and moments of grace. I think this would make a good book to have on everyone's shelves and it would be a great book to give to others.

Book Review: Choose and Choose Again

J. Kevin Butcher, the author of Choose and Choose Again, has placed many powerful testimonies in this book. As someone who has known the depths one can let oneself slip into, then pull out of with God's love, he is able to reach some that others would look over. Often times he does it with simple words of love from God.

I often found myself in tears as I read a chapter, partly because the story itself was touching, but also because I wonder if I would have thought to look into these people's hearts and shared words of love with them.

This book is such a blessing. I am going to share it with my other family members and recommend it to all of those that I know. I am ever thankful for the author and Tyndale Publishers for sending this book my way.

Book Review: Crossing the Waters Following Jesus Through the Storms, The Fish, The Doubts and the Seas

Crossing the Waters, by Leslie Leyland Fields, is a book that speaks to me. Reading the Bible has always been an active pursuit for me. While I read, I envision what it is the author of the book is saying and feeling. This book explores Jesus and his disciples and all the miracles they saw and the parables and messages they shared.

The author, a fisherwoman herself, is able to take her experiences and place them, and us in the Sea of Galilee. She shows us how to find faith through hard times and how to keep our faith during even harder times.

I recommend this book to all, whether new to the faith or someone who has walked with God for many years.

Book Review: Change of Heart

Change of Heart by Courtney Walsh.

Evelyn Brandt has a life that is the envy of many, however, this does not mean it is a happy one. While hosting a dinner party, she is confronted of her husband's embezzling by the FBI. All at once she discovered who her true friends are and how to depend on herself. A friend gives her a place to go to in order to reflect which helps set her on a new and better life.

Courtney Walsh has written other works which I have enjoyed. When I read the summary of this book, I knew that I would enjoy this one also. She has a way of writing which touches the heart, holds the drama of the moment and yet is honest. She was able to handle the difficult parts of this book so well that I just wanted to keep reading. I did not read the first book in the series but I did not feel left out or lost. I know this book will stay with me for quite a while.

Book Review: The Tank Man's Son

Mark Bouman is a loving father, husband and a Christian. Each of these are hard to imagine when reflecting on the difficult life he had as he was growing up. He became the tank man's son when his father brought home a true tank. This is a man who was liked to collect "toys" like these and he was not afraid to let his anger out on his family.

The reader will find their heart breaking as they read this account, yet filling again as they see how this boy was able to find Christ and how this faith saved his life.

I thought that I would have a difficult time reading this book but I am so glad that I stayed with it and finished it.

Book Review: Lead Me Home

Lead Me Home by Amy K. Sorrells, tells the story of a young man, Noble, whose family was abandoned by the father. This left him to take care of the farm and his family, dashing his dreams of finding a home away from here where he can look into following his dreams of music.

Pastor James Horton has also had to face tough decisions, He lost his wife to an accident which also caused changes in his daughter. She no longer sings or socializes with her old friends. Instead she is running around with others that he would prefer she did not.

I loved this book. I felt like I was in the story lines as they were unfolding before me. The struggles that all had were easy to understand. The author took the time to make sure the characters and settings were realistic.

I highly recommend this book.

book review: Faith by Lyn Cote

Faith, by Lyn Cote, is part of the series Quaker Brides. It is set during the Civil War, Faith Cathwell is a nurse on the battlefield. She also decides to take part in the abolition fight.

She also is using this time to look for a child who was kidnapped and sold as a slave. Faith asks Colonel Devlin Knight to help in the search. He agrees and, as they head east with Grant's army a romance begins to grow between them. This leads to many conflicts within themselves.

I found this book to be well researched and very well written. I did not read the first book in the series, but I did not feel lost at all.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading Historical Christian Fiction. I was given this book by The Book Club Network in exchange for my honest review.

Book Review: The Seakeeper's Daughters

In The Seakeeper's Daughters, Whitney Monroe has decided to expand her restaurant to a new place. The local business people are not happy with their decision, so they have been doing whatever they can to prevent the new location from happening. While this is going on, Whitney finds out that her stepfather has hurt himself and spent four days in pain before anyone found him.

Whitney has never gotten along with her stepfather or his family. Her mother requested that Whitney go to the hotel, which is now hers, and to check on her stepfather, who is living there. While there she discovers family secrets.

I love the way that Lisa Wingate is able to tell two stories at the same time without losing the reader. I loved both stories and felt happy with their conclusions.

Book Review: God and Churchill

This interesting view of this great statesman made for an interesting read. He was not a perfect man but he did strive to seek God.

There are four sections to this book which cover the differences between Churchill and other leaders. Included in the book: his preparation for his rol of leadership, family and personal adversity,destiny, and his mission to save Christian Civilization.

Book Review: 365 Pocket Prayers for Women

I love this little book and I feel every woman needs a copy. I received an ebook version of this, but in my life this makes more sense than a book for my purse as I have difficulties holding hard copies of books. I always have my Kindle Fire with me and to have this reference close at hand helps me find the perfect prayer for every need everyday.

Each entry is short enough to read through quickly, yet the message will stay with the reader throughout the day as they reflect. There are days when I want to go back to a reading from another day, the words stay with me so well.

This book can be started at any time of the year as the entries are not dated, which also makes it handy if you are looking for an entry to speak to you. It covers issues that women face every day, including family.

All for a Sister, by Allison Pittman, tells the story of two young ladies as they try to put together the pieces of their lives.

One of the girls, Dana Lundgren, spent most of her life in prison for a crime which never occurred. There was no trial or sentencing of the girl and for most of her life she was forgotten, except by a few people.

Celeste DuFrane, on the other hand, never lacked for anything in her life, except for perhaps the love of her mother and brother.

The two girls are thrown together to find the truth about each other. As one part of the story is uncovered, other questions arise.

This novel is one of the best that I have read in recent time. The writing drew me in and kept me mesmerized as the story drew me in and kept me guessing as to what would happen next.

Allison Pittman is a talented author and I look forward to future work by her.

Book Review: All Right Here

All Right Here by Carre Armstrong Gardner is a touching book about a couple that would like to have a child, but are unable to. When three children are abandoned, the couple takes them into their home. Along with this decision, the family comes across many unexpected trials in their lives such as alcoholism and the challenges that come with teenagers.

This was a touching, wonderful book that I did not want to end. The blessing is there are to be more books in this series revolving around the extended family.

Book Review: Annie's Stories by Cindy Thomson

Annie Gallagher’s life seems to be surrounded by stories. In the year 1901, Annie is living in New York City, although she came here from Ireland. Her father was a storyteller and when he died most of his possessions were taken by his brother.

However, soon after his death, Annie ran from her homeland and found a job and a home at Hawkins House. This was the year The Wonderful Wizard of Oz took New York by storm. Along with this story, Annie seems to see the lives around her as a story. There is a young girl border that is being watched for misconduct. This would not only cost her a home at Hawkins House, a respectable boarding house for immigrants, but could close this establishment as well. This would cost Annie her home, her job and her new friends which she has made.

In addition to these stories, Annie would like to house a library in the name of her father. The loss of the Hawkins House could cost her this dream.

Cindy Thomson has written a wonderful novel about this remarkable young women and the hopes and dreams that she has, not only in her own life, but in the lives of the others around her.
