Of Fire and Lions

Of Fire and Lions: A Novel by [Andrews, Mesu]I received this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.
I have been reading other people's reviews on this book and I am amazed that I have not read a book by this author before.
Of Fire and Lions is a fictional retelling of the life of Daniel, as told through a character named Abigale.
The author, Mesu Andrews is a masterful storyteller. The book is filled with details which show that she knows the details of Daniel's story. The characters' story lines are riveting and developed well. I enjoyed this book and now look forward to reading some of her other novels.
I give this my highest praise.

Book Review: Thief of Corinth

Thief of Corinth by [Afshar, Tessa]I was given this book by Tyndale in exchange for my honest review.
Set in Corinth this book, The Thief of Corinth, tells the story of Ariadne. She leaves her father's home and finds that Galenos has been a thief of great renown. Ariadne chooses to keep him safe even if it mean her life is in ruins.
This is a beautifully told story which includes the story of Lydia. I loved "living" in that time for a while. I have now become a fan of Tessa Afshar and will be reading more of her books in the future.

Book Review: Esther

Angela Hunt has made Esther come to life for me. Biblical stories, which are well-written, are a joy to find and read. Angela Hunt has the gift to do just this. Esther is brought in front of King Xerxes, when he called for beautiful women. Esther went though months of preparation before she won the heart of the king. However, she must not reveal her ethnic background to the king. Then she learned about a plan to exterminate all the Jews. Esther saves her people's lives while risking her own.

I have not come across any of Angela Hunt's books which I have not liked.

I was given this book by NetGalley and Bethany House Publishing in exchange for my honest review.

Book Review: Mary Chosen of God

I enjoy historical fiction. This began when I started reading fictionalized biblical stories. This book fits in with the latter category. In "Mary, Chosen of God" the author was able to do a great job of telling this story. She was able to make her descriptions come to life in a way that I felt like I could reach out and touch the items she talked about, or hear the conversations taking place.

This is a beloved story that I feel was well represented with this book. The author did a wonderful job, which was a wonderful surprise. I hadn't read anything by this author before but I will keep my eyes out for her works in the future.

Book Review: Land of Silence

Land of Silence is a beautifully written Biblical fiction.

Elianna is known in the Bible as the woman who was healed of a 12 blood issue simply by touching Jesus' clothing. The author makes this woman a courageous woman of faith while staying true to Biblical detail.

This woman had her dreams stopped almost before they started, at a young age. However, she never gave up, and she held on to God's love for her. This book is an amazingly written book which I cannot possibly say enough positive things about.

Book Review: On This Foundation

On This Foundation is the third book in the Restoration Charonicles. The author, Lynn Austin, does an awesome job when writing a fictional book based on the Bible. This book covers the story of Nehemiah and the rebuilding of the Jerusalem wall.

If I did not need to sleep, I would not have put this book down once. Even then, I started back up in the morning. This book transports the reader to this Biblical time and the characters are alive. They almost made me feel like I was a fly on the wall.

As with her other books, Austin does not paint perfect characters. Just as we all are flawed, so are the characters in the story, even through he is a powerful and influential man.

I highly recommend this book and even though it is the third in the series, it easily stands alone.

Book Review: Rebekah's Treasure

Rebekah's Treasure, by Sylvia Bambola, is a historical book which tells of the lives of the Jewish people during the times of Jerusalem's fall. When Rebekah and her husband leave the city they each take one valuable thing with them. This story centers around the item Rebekah takes, the cup from the Last Supper. The story tells about the dangers and struggles they each face, plus the characteristics of the cup which make others long after it.

I have loved each of the books by Sylvia Bambola. I love how she keeps her characters grounded in God no matter what they are facing. In a big way, this is a challenge for each of the readers, to help us remember to do this also.

This book deserves the highest rating I can give it. I would recommend it to everyone.
