Book Review: The Scam by Janet Evanovich

I enjoy Janet Enanovich books and this one is now added to my list. 

The characters in this book are Nick Fox and Kate O'Hare. Kate is an FBI agent and Nick is the one she is chasing. Now Nick is an informant and together they are going after Evan Trace who is a money launderer for some of the worst gangsters and terrorists there are . 

As I said before I love reading books by this author so when I saw NetGalley had this one up for review I had to try to grab it. This book is so well written and I love the special surprises that Evanovich gives us. At the end it left me craving the next book so I could see what is going to happen next.

Book Review: The Traitor's Heir

Eamon Goodman is taking his oath to become a member of the Gauntlet. This has been a goal of his for years. At the time he is taking the oath he feels something is speaking to him. This also made him do things he would have never dreamt he would do. This leads to his life being set in turmoil. Then he meets someone that has the same characteristics that he believes in. Now he must choose follow the King or keep the oath.

I was drawn into the story by the story overview plus the fact that it is a fantasy book. After the main character is turned, the reader is not sure which path he is going to take. The characters in the book were so well-written that I caught myself feeling for them and caring for what would happen. I believe that those that enjoy fantasy will also enjoy this book.

Book Review: Desperate Measures

Desperate Measures is the third book in The Port Aster Secrets. I have not read the first books of the series but I was able to catch on quickly. This is a mystery that was so well written that I did not want to put it down. When I did, I could not wait to get back to it.

The mystery is centered around a miracle plant. Kate's, the main character, father was directly involved in the development of this plant. There are so many twists with this story that the reader will keep guessing and will be continually surprised.

There is also a Detective, Tom Parker, who is trying to solve the mystery around Kate. These two characters seem to dance around each other, so even in this the reader is continually guessing what is going to happen.

The characters are well developed and believable and the descriptions throughout the book help to draw the reader into the story. This is a great book that I would encourage anyone that enjoys mysteries to read.

Book Review: Wicked Women of the Bible

Deborah, Ruth, Abigail, Esther....Wicked women of the bible? I thought that Ann Spangler was imagining things until I read the chapters in the book. This book is made up of twenty chapters and each one makes a good Bible study, either for an individual or as a group. The end of each story has a "Takeaway" section which has encouragements for reflection and discussion.

I loved this book. I think it is interesting to find a little bit more about each person in the Bible, so this book fit with me very well. I could tell that Ann Spangler researches her topics well and then she is able to place her knowledge into a readable format.

Book Review: Washington & Hamilton: The Alliance that forged America

I have read many books about each of these gentlemen, but I do not believe I have ever read one about their relationship. Both of these men had many military and personal struggles, yet they were able to come together to forge what became The United States of America.

This book covers their ambitions, and how their lives did not seem like they would converge until they had to fight for this country.

Anyone that has an interest in US history, or Hamilton or Washington should read this book. It will be a good addition to anyone's library.

Book Review: Helping without Hurting in Church Benevolence

I helped with compassionate giving in our church for a few years. So when I saw this book I wanted to read it to compare notes. I agree with what they say about the needs of those that come to ask are many, not just financial. It is important to speak to their needs, not just throw money at them. This book is for staff, elders and volunteers.

This is a practical resource book for any in a church who are either involved or want to set up a benevolent group.

Book Review: Emissary

Emissary  is a well written fantasy book. The story shows Hyam was born with a special gift...the ability to conquer languages, even the languages that have been dead for centuries. He now has to keep his gift and his identity a secret due to suspicion being placed on him a a prodigy. His mother asks him to go back to Long Hall, where he was taught, before settling down. To do this he must face many dangers.

I did like the development of Hyam, however his antagonist seemed to be a bit predictable as did the ending. I did enjoy this book, though, as I enjoy fantasy books. This would be a nice quick read for anyone else that enjoys this genre of writing.
