Acts: Everyday Bible Commentary

I was given this book by Moody Publishing in exchange for an honest review.
God's ways are amazing. Our pastor announced we were going to be studying the book of Acts. I had just requested and received this book a day or two before. This led my husband and I too take our time and use this as a devotional. It opened discussions and help us to see answers to some of our questions from this Bible book.
The book is broken down into 19 parts and within each chapter it is broken down further to help in the exploration. I have been amazed.
I highly recommend this book to others who would like to look into the book of Acts further.

Children's Book Review: Wow! The Good News in Four Words

How great! A participatory book for children about the Bible!
I received this book, yesterday, for free from Tyndale Kids, and the first thing that struck me was the bright, expressive colors on the cover. And illustrations that will draw kid's attention to it.

This book gives the children four words that they are encouraged to say, loudly, when they see them on the page. Each one has its own shape to go with it. So Wow is in a red heart, Uh-oh is in a broken purple heart, Yes is on a brown cross and Ahhh is in a blue cloud. The text is written in a rhyme so children will catch on to it very quickly, plus the story itself is the Good News.

Before the story begins, there is a page to parents to give an idea of how to use the book and then at the end there are Scriptures for the parents to take the story further with the children. The Scriptures are given for each of the words.

I am so excited to share this book with my grandchildren. What a fun way to present these little ones with the Good News!

Historical and Theological Foundations of Law consists of three volumes of history. These are Volume 1: Ancient History; Volume 2: Classical and Medieval; Volume 3: Reformation and Colonial. These amazing books clearly show how the Bible laid the foundations of our laws. The books are thoroughly and thoughtfully researched by John Eidsmoe, a retired Lt. Colonel in the Air Force and a Colonel in the Alabama State Defense Force. He is also an Adjunct Professor at Oak Brook College of Law and Government Policy, the Handong International Law School in South Korea and the Institute of Lutheran Theology. 

I had my doubts that this subject could be covered in a manner that would maintain my interest, as the law can be a bit dry for me at times. However, from the first page of Volume I through the last I have highlighted and notated almost each and every page. 

I can honestly say that I have enjoyed these books and would highly recommend anyone with an interest in law, history or the Bible.

Book Review: God's Servant Job

My husband thought that it was funny that I was going to review this book. I have never been a fan of this book of the Bible. If I had been presented it the way this book does, when I was younger, perhaps I would have felt differently.

The author made it a fun read by presenting the book of Job as a poem. Bond also stresses faith even though Job has so many trying times. The illustrations by Todd Shaffer are perfect also. They are bright and colorful, but yet still portrays the times of the story.

I would read this book to children with ease and I would recommend it to my family and friends. Thank you Mr. Bond and Mr. Shaffer.

Bible Review: The CEB Study Bible

It is interesting reviewing Bibles because going into it, it is difficult to know how it will be set apart from others. This one has.

Each book has information on the book's theme plus it cross-references to other places in the Bible that relate. There are also many illustrations and pictures of places from today's viewpoint. 

This is a lovely version of the Bible and I would recommend it to anyone that is interested in another version and a new way of looking at this most powerful book.

Book Review: Praying the Prayers of the Bible

God has expressed His desire to talk with us throughout the Bible and as this book shows us He even provided us prayers to help. He never wants us to feel alone or hopeless. So when he gave us these prayers he is showing His love for us and He is helping us to open our hearts to Him and a stronger faith, and blessings.

This book is a wonderful resource to keep close at hand throughout life.

Book Review: Wicked Women of the Bible

Deborah, Ruth, Abigail, Esther....Wicked women of the bible? I thought that Ann Spangler was imagining things until I read the chapters in the book. This book is made up of twenty chapters and each one makes a good Bible study, either for an individual or as a group. The end of each story has a "Takeaway" section which has encouragements for reflection and discussion.

I loved this book. I think it is interesting to find a little bit more about each person in the Bible, so this book fit with me very well. I could tell that Ann Spangler researches her topics well and then she is able to place her knowledge into a readable format.
