Prayers for Prodigals by James Banks

 

This book is a great choice for parents and a blessing for their children. However, it is not only for parents, I am a grandparent and the wisdom it gave me is one I can share with my children and grandchildren. It does not matter if you child is walking God's path or not, prayers are our way of protecting them through all the difficult and various times in their lives.

All mom's have days when we are cranky, even if we hate to admit it. Becky Kopitzke addresses these times in The Cranky Mom Fix with humor. She shares her own humorous stories and shows how to :
*Sidestep the triggers
*Three family rules to help stop the bickering
*and enjoy your children more  and scold them less
She shows how regular family meetings and fun activities can help to open up communication.
This book would be a wonderful addition for anyone who is a mother or about to be a mother.

Dear Grandchild, this is me

What a wonderful book. This book is filled with questions for a grandparent and is meant to be passed on to their grandchildren. There is plenty of space to elaborate on answers, place photos and share memories. This is a hardcover book yet is made to lay open to help ease writing on each page. The book covers different stages of a grandparent's life beginning with information about beginning years through being a grandparent. I also enjoy the other sections, such as a cooking section, and travel. I cannot say enough good things about this book. I am going to fill it up for my own grandchildren.

Book Review: Purposeful Parenting

Purposeful Parenting, by Jean S. Barnes, is a Bible-based guide to being a better parent. Barnes does not gloss over the hard work involved in parenting but instead show parents how to use the Bible's wisdom to help with this life-building job.

She begins by listing six principles for parents, which she also calls six guiding steps for them.

One of the things I loved throughout the book was the use of little quizzes so parents are able to see what kind of parent they are. Plus there are references throughout to help parents set their path.
Included are topics such as Love, Discipline, Character, Perseverance and Teamwork. Then in the Appendix is a skills and ability checklist.

As my daughter is a parent of a young child, I am going to recommend this book to her and to others, no matter the age of their children.
