The Mirror: Broken Wish

 Wow! This is such a wonderful book. Each chapter made me stay around to see what would happen next. This is such a magical book.

 Mathilda and Agnes had such a friendship which led effortlessly into the rest of the story. As was intended, the story is reminiscent of the Grimm Brothers and the tales they created. 

Elva is Agnes' daughter and is one of the main characters in the story. It was easy to love, and feel emotional for her as her story unfolded. She has such a warm heart which touches those around her.

The author has such a magic touch for blending words together that made me want to drink in each word and not to miss one. To all who enjoy reading fairy tales, or stories of family, friendship and aiming to do what is best, this is a wonderful choice. I cannot recommend this book any higher.

Book Review: Red: The True Story of Red Riding Hood

I was given this book by NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
Different versions of fairy tales intrigue me. This one has Red being fearless, unless there is magic involved. Now she has to turn to it to try to help her granny, who is ill.
She asks Goldie to help her. Goldie is blond and likes trying porridge. Together they go through the dwarves' caverns to come to a haunted well and a castle that belongs to a beast. Unbeknownst to them a wolf and a  huntsman are on their heels.
I love this take on the story. I know my grandchildren would take to it right away. There are enough surprises to keep them reading to the end.

Book Review: The Vanishing Throne

This book, The Vanishing Throne, is the second book in the Falconer Trilogy. This book is suspenseful, however, I had a difficult time staying with it, since I had not read the first book. However, saying that, Elizabeth May has a gift of writing which makes the reader feel as if they are part of the action.

I would like to come back to this book after reading book one. I would recommend this for anyone who has an interest in this book.

Book Review: A Fairy's Guide to Disaster

Matilda Whipplethorn has been asked to take on a big challenge...babysit Gerald, the fairy nobody likes. As she tries to talk her way out of it, her mother shows her a list of everything that could go wrong and how to handle it. Unfortunately, the list does not include people coming into Whipplethorn Manor and taking her home with her, Gerald and her sister Iris included. The mantel that is taken has been her home for as long as she can remember, now these humans are taking it to an antique mall. Here it is purchased and sent to a new home. Matilda is not sure what to do as one disaster follows another.

This is a fun and very well-written book with good character development. I have always enjoyed books about fairies and I now have a new one that will stay with me for a while. I enjoyed watching how Matilda became more brave throughout the book and the children were able to realize that each one had redeeming qualities which helped them overlook the other, less-likable traits. I truly enjoyed this book.

Book Review: The White Knight, The Lost Kingdom and the Sea Princess

One look at this cover was enough to get me to begin reading this book. It looks like it should belong on a fairy tale. Then the title....wow!

This beautiful book, by Judy Carlson, tells the story of Prince Lael. When faced by an enemy, who took his family, he has to show his loyalty and his strength. He is soon joined by two children, Clara and Ian. They are from Minnesota but they still want to help to free the Sea Princess and beat temptations. Through the story they come upon the White Knight and they gain many things.

This story is filled with adventure, evil, creatures, love and so many other things which make it a terrific, and fun read. I had such fun reading this that it was a book which was hard to put down.

This is a book for children and adults alike. I believe that there is something in it for everyone.

Book Review: The Time Garden

This is a coloring book and a fairy tale all in one. When I received this book the story drew me in and then I saw all the possibilities with the illustrations.

I love coloring books and this one will not leave me bored. If anyone likes to color, like I do, this is a wonderful book. Or if there are children in your lives, they will enjoy the story to go with the drawings.
