Book Review: The Blue Bath

The first thing I thought when I started to read The Blue Bath is the beautiful writing. I was able to lose myself In Mary Waters-Sayers words.

The characters in this book are fully rounded. I could feel what they would be feeling and, through her use of descriptive words, I could see what they saw.

I cannot say enough good things about this book. I loved it and most highly recommend it.

Book Review: The Christmas Town

This is a joyful story. It is filled with love, and family, each which were found expectantly.

Lauren Gabriel spent most of her life wishing for her mother to come and get her from each of the foster homes she lived in.  She is now 20 years old and still looking for the ever elusive home. She is a cashier and feels like another Christmas is not what she needs. Trying to avoid her lonely apartment one night, she drives around, until she sees a car accident. This brings her to a small town called Grandon as a witness. Soon she finds herself volunteering for Glory's Place. This is a place which provides assistance to single mothers and families. This feels just right for Lauren. Could it possibly be that she has now discovered home?

The author, Donna Van Liere wrote a story which is engaging and thoughtful. It is filled with hope and I found myself thinking about the rich characters which she made complex and real. I believe I will keep this on my shelf to pull out every Christmas.

This book, George Washington's Secret Spy War, was an interesting book to read. It appears to be thoroughly researched, however, I did have difficulties following the subject at times. The author is very credible, I just had a very hard time wanting to pick the book up when I had to put it down.

I am a history buff so I do know the details that have to go into writing to help back up the facts, but I just felt like the book was sluggish. I truly wanted to enjoy the book but I did have my problems with it.

Book Review: St. Martin's First

As with other samplers, St. Martin's First is filled with a variety of books. For those who enjoy samplers, I believe that St. Martin's provides a wide choice of stories to glance at. There are mysteries, romances drama...

I love samplers and I usually enjoy reading them right away,so I can begin looking for books to read the next year. Somehow I read these, this time, but I guess I did not post a review. I highly recommend this set of samples to all, along with St. Martin's Press.

Book Review: Lawyer for the Dog

Sally Baynard, from Charleston, South Carolina, is a successful lawyer. She has represented many of the down and out, including many divorces. Her own divorce, however, has not left either with a good taste in their mouths. Her ex is a Family Court Judge and he has assigned her to represent Sherman, a miniature schnauzer. She now has to manage the dog, the owners, her ex-husband, and her mother, who has Alzheimer's. Whew. Along the way, she meets up with Sherman's vet named Tony. Life is fun.

I first chose this book because of the cover and the title. I am quite the dog lover. The author was able to create believable characters and settings and the dialog kept the book moving along. I enjoyed this book.

Book Review: If I Could Turn Back Time

It is often fun to think what would I do different if I were to go back to my past. The main character in this book gets to do just that. This science fiction book shows how changing things in our past could help or hurt. It reminded me of It's a Wonderful Life, Back to the Future and others stories which involve time travel. How would things change? Would it just be my life or others around us? So many questions brought about by one book.

It is such a nice easy read because the author, Beth Harbison, has such a wonderful writing style. I highly recommend this book to others who want to feel good and think about their lives.

Book Review: The Girl in the Green Sweater

The Girl in the Green Sweater: A Life in Holocaust's Shadow is a very well-written book. I did not want to put it down as the story was so intriguing.

The families, in this book, lived through communist Russia and then they went through the Polish invasion by the Nazis.

There are times when my heart wept for the suffering that was dealt onto the people by the Germans and the SS. Some of the things were loss of items, no food, hiding and so much more. Then they had to live in sewers to avoid capture, after they has escaped.

I feel like stories like this are needed to help people realize the horrendous times people have gone through in the past.

I recommend this book highly.

I enjoy reading these sampler books. They help me decide what books I may want to read. This is filled with many books of adventure, mystery and romance. A little something for everyone. I enjoyed reading the excerpts from each one and would recommend St. Martin's books to everyone who enjoys reading.
