Book review: Cupcakes for Christmas

I was given this book by NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
I always enjoy a fun Christmas book and when it is mixed with cupcakes, who can say no?
This is a part of a series but I was able to read, understand and enjoy it even though I had not read the other books in the series.
Olivia James owns a tea and sweet shop which had previously been her mother. Olivia has been enjoying the adventure of running this little shop by herself and experimenting with different flavors. When Simon Blacklock comes across this shop she finds she enjoys his personality. At the end of the visit, after he promised he would be back, she found herself looking forward to his next time.
I enjoyed both of the main characters of this book and the way Hewitt has them meet made my heart swell. This does not mean that all went smoothly for the two. The author was able to create realistic issues that they both have to deal with, which make them stronger in the end. I will try to read more books by this author in the future.





Cupcakes for Christmas is the type of book that is just as much heartbreaking as it is heartwarming. The couple within this story were both immediately likable and their meeting and getting to know one another quite sweet. Both however have issues in their lives that are quite heartbreaking and bringing that into each other’s lives only made them seem stronger so overall I found this quite the touching read with a bit heavier subject matter.

Book Review: Stories for the 12 Days of Christmas

I was given this book by NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
This is such a nice way to read Christmas stories. Linda Mansfield introduces the book by letting the reader know there isn't a wrong way to read this book. You could read one a day, or the whole book at once. Each story is separate from the others, they are all short, and realistic.
I could see myself taking this book when I am going to have to wait for something. I could easily read one of the stories in that time. I caught myself smiling at some of them, plus they helped to remind me what Christmas is truly about.
It would be a great gift for anyone, or purchase one for yourself.

Book Review: A Winterfold Christmas

I was given this book by NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
Reading Harriet Evans' books give me a cozy, at-home feeling. In A Winterfold Christmas the Winter family are awaiting a family reunion. This reunion is to take place over Christmas. Martha Winter enjoys the joyful feeling of having family around but also feels the ghosts of the past surround her. This is a magical time and this is a wonderful place to experience it.
As with other works of Harriet Evans, she has a gift to make the reader feel that warm feeling that comes when most families come together.

Book Review: Colors of Christmas

This book, Colors of Christmas, has two stories set for the contemporary book reader. Christmas in Gold tells about an older woman who faces the changes moving into a community housing center can bring. She grew up during the time of Hitler, in Germany. She tells about the fighting and not being allowed to ask or say anything. The tale is from her perspective and how her life has brought her closer to others, especially the physical therapist. She also shares Jesus and her telling shows how this was how she broke through to her therapist.

Christmas Blue features Angela who lost her best friend eight months ago and still misses her. Her friend had the joy of Christmas. She would lead decorating and all the special traditions that made this time of year special. Now Angela is expected to take her friends place, which she accepts. Unfortunately, misfortunes keep appearing - a broken wagon, water damage on ornaments that were stored in the basement of the church when a pipe broke and so on. When someone arrives to help, things begin to look better.

Both of these stories are good Christian fiction without being preachy. They each deal with loss and love during Christmas. I enjoyed both of these books. tremendously.

Book Review: I don't want to talk about it.

Winter Gregory is a surprisingly good writer, more so than anyone thought she could be. Afterwards Gregory decided to write her next book taking up on the heels of the previous one. To do this she researches in a Yorkshire village. Soon her life becomes enmeshed with those of the community, especially Scarlet an 8-year-old who has recently lost her mother. It is through this little girl that Gregory meets Alex, Scarlet's uncle. As this relationship grows, each deal with problems they are facing.

This superb book's overall theme is grief and different ways of dealing with it. Don't let that discourage readers, however, as the author deals with it in a caring and, at times, humorous manner.

This book is one of my favorites. Even though I have not read any books by this author in the past, I believe from now on she will be on my radar.

Children's Book Review: Happy Birthday, Davy

Being a grandmother, I enjoy reading and reviewing children's book. I look at them as if I was sitting here with my grandchildren, gauging their responses.

Happy Birthday, Davy! would meet their expectations, Davy has a birthday coming up, but with the excitement of a youngster it seems a longer ways away than it actually is. His father takes this time to tell Davy about a rabbit who received three wishes and they all cam true. So Davy thinks about if he were this rabbit and what he would wish for. He decided on someone to tell him stories anytime he would want one, someone to teach him games and someone that would spend time just with him. when his birthday comes he finds a huge present which makes his wishes come true.

I love the lesson of love that radiates throughout this story and the illustrations would grab any youngsters attention. I could see my grandchildren making this book a favorite very quickly. So much so, I believe I will purchase a copy for them as soon as I can.
