The Inn at Hidden Run

This book tugs at the heart strings.
The Inn at Hidden Run by Olivia Newport is the first of a series.
Nolan Duffy and Jillian Parisi-Duffy are father and daughter. He is a lawyer and she is a genealogist.
In this book the past and present are presented in a pleasing way, with humor and faith. The story line from the past shows how a generation were able to deal with an epidemic with faith. The past generation deals with Eliza in 1878, the present story deals with Meri but they are blended in a way that shows skill and love for the story.
I truly enjoyed this book and recommend it to all readers.

Book Review: Threads of Suspicion

Threads of Suspicion is a part of Evie Blackwell Cold Case series. Written by Dee Henderson,  it continues the series with Evie Blackwell's appointment to the new Missing Persons Task Force. It is made up of others with excellent reputations. Her new partner is David Marshal and they are each working separate cases in Chicago. They each have their own investigative styles which produce results. Evie is looking for a missing college student and brings old feelings to the surface. David is looking for a private investigator.

Having read several of Dee Henderson's books in the past, I knew it would be engaging from the beginning. This is the first in this series which I have read, but I was pulled in from the first chapter. It was interesting to see how the cases of the two investigators intertwined and how they affected their personal lives.

This book was eye-opening to some of the behind-the-scenes work of those who do this type of job. I truly enjoyed this novel.

Book Review: Anything for a Mystery

When I am reading serious non-fiction, I enjoy picking up a book that looks like it will be fun to read. Anything for a Mystery was the book that I chose this time. This is the first book in A Nosy Neighbor Mystery.

In this book, Stormi writes romance books but has been asked to try other genres. In the meantime she has moved to a new house and lands right in the middle of a mystery, where she is a person of interest in an investigation.

I loved how light and easy this book was to read. Most of the time I had a smile on my face while reading. I was able to complete this book in a day and I loved every moment.

Book Review: The Rise to Power

This first book of the Legacy Series, by David Francis, is set in England during the early life of James, Earl of Pembroke. The throne is located in the East Wing of the Bannerman Estates.

The book contains a good balance of intrique, humor, and romance with a bit of spirituality. Overall this book reflects the times in which it is set and the characters are well-developed. I decided to read this book based on the location of the book. I am a English history buff and enjoy books from this era. I look forward to reading the next book.

Book Review: Miranda Warning

Miranda Warning, by Heather Day Gilbert, is the first book in the Murder in the Mountain series. In this book Tess Spencer always carries a Glock and a knife with her. This comes in handy as she investigates the murder of an old friend, Miranda.

She and her husband, Tomas live in the mountains in West Virginia, when she received a warning note telling her to stay away from a 40-year old widower, Paul. The adventure takes off from there

Gilbert does a good job of leading the reader through the past and the present. Her characters are well-thought out so that the reader feels like they have become friends during the mystery. This book was one of the easiest reads that I have read recently. Once I picked it up, I wanted to continue reading until I was done.

Ronald Glanz has written another book that will keep the reader on their toes. This book, PDQ, revolves around robberies and murders that have occurred at a few convenience stores in Madison, Wisconsin. Detectives Schultz and Finney are assigned to this case and their investigation takes some unpredictable twists and turns until they finally solve it.

I have become a Ronald Glanz fan with previous books that I have read. I look forward to his books to keep me on the edge of my chair and to grab my attention and keep it to the end.

Book Review: Up From the Grave

Marilyn Leach has a way with a mystery. In Up From the Grave she continues with the tradition. While having the ground-breaking for a garden at St. Aidan of the Wood Parish, a bone turns up. This set Berdie Elliot on the hunt to solve the mystery of the bone and how it ended up in this spot.

I enjoyed reading this book very much. Now I will need to check out this author’s other works. Thank you.

Book Review: Fatal Exchange by Lisa Harris

Fatal Exchange, by Lisa Harris, is a modern-day suspense novel. Before beginning this book, find a comfortable seat and a nice cup of a favorite beverage, because once you begin to read this you will want to stay with it to the end.

Emily Hunt’s brother, a police officer, was killed. Whereby Emily and her family have their own suspect, it needs to be proven. The path that this book takes you on will keep the reader on the edge of their seat.

This is a very good book and I look forward to reading more by this author.

Book Review: Down and Dead in Dixie by Vicki Hinze

Down and Dead in Dixie, by Vicki Hinze, is a fun read. Most of the people that the reader meets in this book are not what they seem. Or perhaps it is best said that they are more than they seem.

Hinze has a way of bringing the reader to the point that they think they will never unravel everything and, soon, one puzzle is unraveled and another presents itself.

I would have given it the highest rating, except that it was a little slow at the beginning, so I was not sure if I would stay with it. Soon, though, I could not put it down.

Anyone that enjoys an entertaining story to keep them involved and holding their breath to see what happens next will definitely enjoy this book.
