Book Review: Gork, the Teenage Dragon

Gork is different from other dragons. His heart is big, his horns aren't and he faints. At the WarWings Military Academy he is called Weak Sauce and he is the lowest in his class. However, he doesn't let any of this get to him. Tomorrow he is to graduate from high school and tonight he needs to ask a female to be queen. It could go one of two ways, she could say yes and they will go off together to other planets, or he could end up being a slave.

This is a combination of love story, fantasy and just so much fun. The author has such an imagination, it is hard to believe this could be a debut novel. Teens will be able to relate to it as they empathize with Gork and cheer him on.

This would be an enjoyable book for this age reader and I recommend it. I was given this book by NetGalley and Knopf Doubleday Publishing in exchange for my honest review.

Book Review: Untraceable

This book, Untraceable, is a suspense book which was written especially for teens.

Grace is the 16 year old daughter of a wild life officer who has disappeared. When others have given up on the search for her father, Grace takes the skills for survival which her father has taught her.

One person, Wyn, her childhood friend, is willing to help her. However, he is not comfortable in the woods. 


Grace also comes across Mo, who rescues her from danger. However, she is not sure she can trust him.

I found this book intriguing and I think teens will enjoy this book a lot.

Book Review: Courageous

Set during the Crusades, Courageous is the third book in Sleiman's Series Valiant Hearts. This book is written for Young Adult readers, however I found myself drawn to it after reading her previous books in the series.

This book is sure to hold the attention of its audience as it combines action, romance and history. This time period has never held great interest for me, but the research put into this book and the viewpoint of this book helped me to dive in. She covers the different reasons some chose to go on the Crusades and the different groups of people involved. She also showed us some of the background and difficulties encountered along the way.

Sleiman has such a gift in the way she writes and I have enjoyed this entire series. I know that hers will be a name I will look out for in the future.

The Circle Girls: Once Upon a Witch by Anya Novikov

The first sentence of this book, "God will give you blood to drink," made me a little wary about reading this book. However, by the next paragraph Anya Novikov, drew me into the book. This was much like the main character of the book, Delli.
Delli Willis is a teen-age girl who begins having dreams which intersect her life at many points. In her dreams, set during the Salem Witch Trials, the main character has a name much like her own, as does a mysterious young man that she meets in the dream and in real life. Delli's dreams and how they reflect this troubling time, pulled me in and kept me intriqued until the very end.
Novikov did a wonderful job of raising the reader's interest and keeping them involved in the book. Even though this book was meant as a book for youth, I found myself thoroughly enjoying this book.
