I love cozy mysteries. This one is set in the small English town of Trevena. Being set in England just makes it dearer to me.

This is the first in the Chatty Corgi series. Emma Reed has plans to open a tea shop, however, this woman has the rare talent of being able to understand what Oliver, her Corgi, says.

Trevena has the usual stories however, there is one about the disappearance of a resident who was not liked by many. Nicholas Penhallow owned the building that Emma would like to make her tea shop. Now it seems the rumor mill believes that his wife may have killed him and burned his body in their bakery oven.

This isn't the only mystery in this small town. Emma no sooner arrived in town, than she found the dead body of the woman who was interfering with her purchasing the tea shop, Victoria Roberts. Oliver decides to aid his senses to help find out the truth behind this murder

I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys cozy mysteries, stories set in England or those that include a dog.

Book Review: Ruff Justice

I love books and dogs, so when I saw this book cover I had to get this book to review. I was blessed with lovely weather and no distractions so I was able to pick up this book yesterday and I finished it this morning. I loved it.
This book is a cozy mystery which centers around the world of a dog show, a murdered vendor and her missing friend and tenant. The connection between the murder and the tenant becomes clearer when secrets start appearing.
As I stated before this book was a nice quick read, especially when you can settle back and enjoy it. The description of the world of dog shows and the world of teaching are very well written, as are the characters, including the dogs.
I highly recommend this book and I hope to be able to read more by this author soon.

Book Review: Delicious and Suspicious

This book is set in Memphis, at Aunt Pat's barbecue restaurant. Aunt Pat is actually Lulu Taylor's Great aunt. Lulu runs this restaurant which has a reputation for great ribs. Now, however, there has been a murder.

The victim is Rebecca Adrian, who came to the area for the Cooking Chanel Show. She was hoping to find a restaurant with great barbecue, now she is dead. Everyone is sure that her death was the doing of Aunt Pat's restaurant, so Lulu decides to investigate to put their reputation to the good again.

I love a good cozy mystery, and Delicious and Suspicious fit the bill perfectly. Riley Adams filled this book with Tennessee charm and made my mouth water for a taste of the barbecue from Aunt Pat's restaurant.

I felt like the characters were complex and real, plus, it kept me turning the pages to find how the mystery was solved.

Book Review: A Hiss Before Dying

A Hiss Before Dying is a cozy mystery in the Mrs. Murphy series.

During the Autumn, while the world is going about its normal routines of cleaning and preparing for winter, the annual rabbit hunt takes place. During this event the beagles and the hunters come up with a different find of find....a dead body.

Previously a missing truck driver's corpse was found, although it could not be identified. Where these too connected? Harry Haristeen finds some clues which go back to the area right after the Revolutionary War.

Through the help of the cats, Mrs. Murphy, Pewter, and Tucker, the mystery begins to unravel.

I enjoy reading about the likeable characters and the interesting parts about the history involved. I did not want to put this book down once I started.

Book Review: Death in the Abstract

This book, Death in the Abstract, is part of the Katherine Sullivan Mysteries.

Katherine Sullivan has moved to New Mexico, mainly to see the artistic part of her. Soon, though Nathan Walker, a friend and a previous workmate from when she was a police officer, is missing and they have called her, so, Katherine flies back.

There has also been a murder in her old home town. A local woman. There also seems to be a connection to Nathan's disappearance.

The plot and writing were very good. The story was intriguing and was easy to fall into. Overall, I found this cozy mystery to be a very enjoyable book.

Book Review: Shards of Murder

I love this type of book. I've seen them referred to as cozy mysteries and I feel that describes them exactly.

In Shards of Murder, Savannah Webb comes across a murder at a glass-making competition. She runs her late-father's shop, Webb's Glass Shop and she has been asked to be a judge at the Spinnaker Arts Festival. She chose the winner but the winner didn't claim her prize, $25,000. Her body is soon discovered by Savannah and then the adventure begins.

I enjoyed the characters. Cheryl Hollon made them fun yet believable. The story itself was well-developed and kept me wanting to read. She also included a little on the processing of glass. Overall, I found this book a nice one to pick up when I wanted to settle in and read for a little while.
