differentiating instruction with menus: Physic

I find these books to be a potential instruction books for teachers with children of advanced learning. This book deals with the subject of physics.

It covers motion, forces, energy and waves with different topics within these areas.

The first two chapters cover choices and how to use menus in the class including products that are used in the book. These include advertisements, collage, crossword puzzles trading cards, puppets and many, many more.

I think this would be a useful book for any teacher which has higher level students in their classroom.

I was given this book by the publisher, Westphal, in exchange for my honest review. All opinions stated are my own.

The Jacob's Ladder Reading Comprehension Program all aim toward those students who show they have high-ability in reading comprehension. The program is an inquiry based program which leads students from understanding to the ability to critically analyze texts. After completing the lessons, students should have the ability to understand and analyze other passages.
The book begins with a Teacher's Guide to the Jacob's Ladder Reading Comprehension Program. It introduces them to the ladders which show the goals and objectives. These include consequences and Implications, Classifications, Literary Elements, Creative Synthesis, Expressing Emotions and Understanding Words. It also helps the teachers with the process of Jacob's Ladder. This includes modeling by the teacher so the students learn the inquiry and feedback system.
the Short Stories suggested in this book are: Ella Sarah Gets Dressed; Flotsam; The Red Book; Kitten's First Full Moon, A Sick Day for Amos McGee; Mrs. Katz and Tush; The Hare and the Tortoise; Owen; I Love Saturdays y Domingos; Big Red Lollipop; The Tiny Seed; Noah's Ark; The Boy Who Loved Words; Sylvester and the Magic Pebble; Iggy Peck, Architect; The Wolf in Sheep's Clothing; Make Way for Ducklings; The Polar Express; The Ants and the Grasshopper and Where the Wild Things Are.

Book Review: Reading With Patrick: A Teacher, a Student, and a Life-changing Friendship

After she graduated from Harvard, Michelle Kuo decided to join Teach for America. this sent her to Helena, Arkansas. This part of the country is poor and still feels the effects of slavery. She finds one student, Patrick Browning, who she decides to mentor, in addition to her teaching. She discovers that this broken school has a truancy and gun violence history.

Patrick is in the 8th grade at the age of 15, however, he is doing so well under Michelle tutelage. After two years, Michelle decides it is time to go to law school. After this grueling schedule, just as she is about to graduate, she finds that Patrick has been accused of murder. She feel responsible so she goes back to finish Patrick's schooling, while he is in prison. She can see his education is making a difference in this young man's life. What she wasn't expecting was the change it would make inn her life.

As an educator, I knew exactly what Michelle was talking about. I often was amazed at how much one-on-one teaching could change the student and myself. I felt she was able to relate this so well, with such a beautiful writing style. Others who read this book could also see that this does not only speak to teachers but each one of us and the impact we can have on  others.  What an inspiration.

I recommend this book highly.

I am so glad that I was given this book by NetGalley and Random House in exchange for my honest review.
